Call for Papers 2006



The Institute of English Literature, Zhejiang University, cordially invites your active
participation in an international symposium on Sinology and Sino-West cultural relations
and exchanges to be held in Hangzhou, October 13-15, 2006.

Abstracts for prospective papers on the following topics are welcome. Your initiative in
organizing a session will also be appreciated.
1. Overseas sinology in history, religion, literature or culture
2. The contacts, conflicts, or merge between Chinese and Western civilizations
3. The Christian missionaries in China and the spread of modern education
4. Hangzhou in the Western perspective
5. Westerners in China
6. Chinese people in the West

Abstract Guidelines



You are asked to limit your abstract to one double-spaced page, bearing your: NAME,
ACADEMIC AFFLIATION, FULL ADDRESS, and CONTACT INFO. To be fully considered,
abstracts must be received by June 1, 2006. You will be notified in early July of the
Program Committee's decision about your abstract.

We are happy to add that we plan to publish a proceeding of the conference, and the
selection of papers for publication will be made by an Editorial Board acting in conjunction with various referees.

Travel Information



Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang Province and one of China's premier tourism cities.
Hangzhou has scheduled flights connecting flights to and from Beijing, Shanghai,
Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Guilin, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Xi'an, Dalian and other major domestic
Chinese cities. Also, Hangzhou offers flights to and from Hong Kong and Singapore. The
airport is situated 27km off the town. A public bus costing RMB15-20 operates to the
center of town from the airport. Large hotels may have free transfer service for
passengers to the airport.

From Shanghai Pudong International Airport to Hangzhou
I
There is a shuttle bus from the Pudong airport to Hangzhou (direct and about 2.5 hours) and the fare is RMB85-100. This service lasts from 8:40 A.M. to 6:10 P.M. and it is much
easier than going by train. Once you arrive in Hangzhou, you can take a taxi to Lingfeng
Hotel (around 20RMB).

It is also an option to fly into Shanghai and then take a train from Shanghai Station to
Hanghzou Station (or Hangzhou East Station). The train journey is between two to three hours depending on which one you catch. You can take a taxi from airport to Shanghai
Railway Station.

From the Hangzhou Airport
If you fly from abroad to Hangzhou Airport, you can take a taxi to the hotel. The fare is
around RMB130. You can also choose to take the airport shuttle bus to downtown. (one in every half an hour from 5:45am to 8:00pm, the fare is about RMB15). Then you can take a taxi to Lingfeng Hotel (around 20RMB).
